MOTHER AND CHILD CARE

Maternal mortality is one of the major indices of the status of maternal health of any country. For women who survive pregnancy and labour, a substantial number suffer long term morbidity including a vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF), infertility and chronic pelvic disability. Public health workers have argued that the estimates of maternal death are under reported by as much as 50% because most maternal death occur in rural areas, away from health facilities.
Pregnancy is not a disease state, expecting mothers should receive adequate ante-natal care to eradicate the risk of pregnancy complications. Several conditions may cause complications in pregnancy. The following conditions make pregnancy an ordeal;
